  1. I think NodeJS would be fine for a backend language, depending on what you are planning for your site, it would be better for some applications. I don't have a lot of personal Node experience to really speak much on that front though. As for PHP I use PHP regularly for work and with my own personal projects. It's not dying anytime soon though some people seem to think so. It's just not true. There are still a lot of jobs for it and lots of new projects using it amongst those jobs. The language is evolving and growing. If you want a heavy real time application, then NodeJS is probably better for that. But there are plenty of games that PHP works well for too. It honestly just depends what you are doing. There are a lot of obsolute and old PHP tutorials out there though. So you do have to watch for that.
  2. The Nyrin is really coming along! Check out a couple variations below with one sporting the new Siamese Points marking. Hope you like it as much as I do. Stay tuned as the Nyrin is going to be released soon!
  3. So I want to get a proper logo done for Eliyo and am looking for a logo artist. I do not 100% know what I want, so someone who can do concepts and work with my ideas to get a concept we are satisfied with would be needed. I want a full sized logo that says the name (Eliyo) as well as a smaller simplified version. I am really not sure what I want, but would like to incorporate the crystal we have been using already somehow, perhaps being the main for the smaller icon, and the i dot for the bigger one? The shape of the crystal can be played with though, since the one there is really just a temporary pulling from other crystal items we had for other purposes. The crystal should have the blue tones that are used now which should be incorporated somehow. We have talked about the letters being more wooden and so tan, but that was just an idea. But we like the idea of using natural elements since that suits the world.
  4. Sent you a PM. I may be able to help.
  5. Somewhat overdue I am happy to announce potions are now usable in battle. Currently there are three types of potions available, health potions, stamina potions, and combination potions that will heal both health and stamina. More battle usable items to be added. Using an item during battle always goes first, but also uses your turn similar to a catch attempt. So plan carefully! More Updates! Added a couple more potions to the game. There are now purple revive potions coming in the minor, regular, and major forms where minor restores a small amount of health and stamina for a fainted elon and major restoring the full health and stamina. These can be found in the Adventurer's Hub in Lavinth. A full restoration potion was also added. This is a yellow potion and restores all health and stamina of an elon along with status effects (still in the works but close to being completed) that the elon has. Flee After Faint and No Double Attacking You can flee directly from battle after fainting even if you have more elons that can fight. As well if you choose to continue fighting, the opposing elon no longer attacks you right away. So you'll have a chance to try and get a hit on them first.
  6. Does anyone have experience with other payment processor options other than Paypal? I am considering other options for a couple different reasons, though the main one is that Paypal doesn't offer any seller protection for false charge backs on digital goods. Just recently dealt with this very problem, and dealing with their resolution center at all was a frustrating experience too as it is slow, clunky, and geared towards physical goods without practical ways to account for digital goods. I'd also like to switch as I use Paypal personally sometimes, and would like to separate out my business income more easily as well. I know Stripe is a becoming more popular, but I am not super familiar with it. However looking at their information it looks like disputes cost $15 extra if they are not won in your favor. So obviously not a risk I would want to take on unless they are good about accepting digital goods disputes in your favor. As anyone used stripes or any know of or used other options?
  7. Love the wolf! Very cute. I am not really big into adoptable type games, I just don't enjoy whether I can 'advance' in a game being dependent on others or waiting but more like to play a lot at once time take a break etc... But a lot of people do, and with creatures like that one I could see if being pretty popular. Will definitely check it out and interested in trying out the breeding feature anyway as I do love breeding and seeing new combinations. Good luck!
  8. Not sure exactly what type of game you are looking for, but you can collect and breed on Eliyo. Currently we have two breeds with a handful of parts each, and a new breed almost ready to be released here really soon. It's a hex based system so elons can be any color so the number of combinations you can get is pretty unlimited. Free to play. http://www.eliyo.net/ What games have you played so far? What are you looking for in a game?
  9. I sometimes use sass at work. I haven't really used less to compare them though. I like sass for variables especially, but nesting and reuse is nice. The extra setup required is a negative though for me, but is still worth it for many projects I dont have a problem using regular css either, though I do prefer using a framework such as foundation.
  10. I had not heard of it until now. Looks like a pretty fun game though! Would love to check it out, though I mostly only get games when they are really cheap on steam right now anyway. Will have to add it to my list though and keep an eye on it.
  11. Why was the games directory removed? There is still a link under the gaming news forum items, but it goes to a page not found error instead.
  12. Nyrin Sneak Peak! What do you think?
  13. Both games Animal Acres and Eliyo have a handful thoughout the day, a Animal Acres a biy more. So eliyo usually over a dozen each day, 15 within past 24 right now. And this week specifically we had over 50 for the week users active. Then Animal Acres not sure on daily but this week was over 120 people on. Of course some people have multiple accounts on their too since its allowed. I dont make a lot and its not regular, some months people will purchase some they dont. But the server is cheap at 12.50 a month for the server and a backup service. Then there is yearly domains too. But I do make a little that I tend to put towards art so far. We have thousands of pageviews for each site. Some weeks jump higher than other though, like 5k -18k depending how actively people are playing.
  14. I will likely have art done so it can easily be dynamically recolored no matter what system I utilize. Even if I dont make a script for it keeps it simple for adding more colors. But just curious as to what options players would enjoy. You have seen browser based or 2d game with those options? What game? I would be interested in checking that out. Have really only seen those options with 3d before which is a different system.
  15. Oh wow that would be a lot. Yeah I have been thinking about a combination system of sorts that works lore wise but would keep the animated character custimization to a more manageable amount. Essentially wearing a cloak that would cover things. You wear a cloak when traveling. There could be a few cloak options too, with the option to have it on or off for the larger flat image. Also curious what people think of having other options such as age (child, adult, elder) and or body sizes (thinner and thicker) and if theyd be used. Havent really seen it done and obviously more work and art, but also seems like itd be cool to pick those type of things.
  16. Looking forward to checking this out once it's opened up. The idea of different worlds is a pretty interesting one and gives some cool possibilities to have a lot of different activities on site. The art is also really nice as well and definitely makes you want to collect the creatures.
  17. Yeah it is quite a bit to do solo, I've done a lot solo for my games but without the help I've had and outsourcing I wouldn't be this far. So I can definitely understand things taking time. And especially if doing the art causes you physical pain and you don't have good health.
  18. That is a good point about all the extra needed for animation, one reason I was originally going towards character selection, but was also thinking there would be a more larger non animated one for profile and forums, but then youd probably still want the 2d one to match. So that would actually just add even more art. I in general dont mind selection, but then it is nice to be able to make a unique character too, especially since it is a more community oriented game. Also adds more shops and reward options in game.
  19. Interesting idea. Have you made any progress yet? Been a little since you've posted. My only suggestion which is just general but that youd make it in a way that people who play for a bit then come back cqn kind of pick up where they left off. Thiswould support plays like myslef who tend to do more binge playing. Play the same game for a while, take a break come back play again etc... Could be within the same week or even a month or months.
  20. Python is another option for the backend, didn't mention it since it isn't as common and I was on my phone and I really don't have experience using it as a web language either so can't really advise. There is a lot to choose from. Good luck in your learning. I thought khan academies javascript courses were pretty decent, well my husband went through some of them so far not all but they seemed pretty good. Not sure how code academy is.
  21. I'd love to be working self employed developing games. Being able to do part time work would be great so I have more time to take care of my family. Id also like to have more kids though 20 years probably near done with grandkids in the mix id imagine. 10 years will probably be pretty full at home still though. Hard to imagine.
  22. 1. Eliyo, since its my game. 2. Workflowy, love this site and use it all the time. Lets me make lists and keep track of things. 3. ? Unsure which one to put here really. Maybe google lol easy searching to get to all the others I use.
  23. Hey welcome. Have you mapped out your game in writing yet? Putting down a lot of details so that is can be taken and programmed directly is really helpful. As for programming have to decided what youll be learning? Javascript is a must for the front end, but you can use node to use it on the backend too. Its good if you want to do more live type responses, I havent used it myself but thats its strength. Otherwise you can use a different backend language like PHP or Ruby. I personally use php and love it. It can have a bad reputation from its beginnings but it has a lot of great improvements since then. There are a lot of bad or outdated tutorials out there though, so youll want to watch that. Make sure they are newer. Most of the time you would want newer resources anyway, just php being so old its more of a problem as there are more old ones around. I dont have as much personal experience with ruby, but its probably a fine choice too.
  24. In a game where you need a character to walk around the screen (pixel 2D world) would an option to select a character be enough? Or would a full human avatar system be preferred? What if the character selection was able to have more choices such as older, younger, and thin or thick and the avatar system was generic? With the character selection how many choices would you want to have? For the avatar system what choices would you want to have? And then in general what do you look for and like to have in an avatar system? Would a system that allows choices such as age and weight be interesting to you?
  25. The updates look good! Seems like things are really coming along for you. It was fun playing around with the wolf demo. I noticed a minor issue when playing around, the red base color changes to white when you select it instead of the tree background there originally.
