  1. I don't remember how long ago I joined VPL, but it could have been up to 10 years ago. I was active for a lot of those years. I love TGL, the community and staff are wonderful!
  2. Seconding what Cadence said. Also, it's interesting that there are questions bring brought up here regarding whether TGL should be more of a virtual pets / SIMs focussed site or more game dev in general... I am not sure if it would help from a marketting or advertising standpoint to narrow down the focus (I'm not very knowledgable in that area). I also don't know which would be better for the site. As long as we can still talk about browser games/virtualpets/sims then I'd be happy with whatever direction TGL goes in. Whatever would be best to help the forum grow and prosper.
  3. This is great to know! Thank you. =D
  4. Well, I finally got approved and put Adsense up. I made it guest-only (will not show when logged in) because it seems to cause longer page loads and I don't think I'd get as many clicks from the smaller group of people who log in anyway. Not worth bogging down the site for them. Most of the clicks will probably come from visitors, but I have no idea, this is my first time using Adsense... Strangely, it doesn't show any ads on Mobile. Might be my site's lack of mobile viewport or something (I was testing with debugger earlier). Edit: Nevermind, they won't show up at all anymore. Oh well.
  5. Yeah =D Plots are fun to follow! It's also really rewarding to watch everyone else enjoy it, but a tradeoff for sure.
  6. Yep, and I would enjoy it a lot more not knowing every little thing about it. =D
  7. Awesome! Congratulations everyone. Thank you Digital!
  8. Precisely. I get so sick of the 'us versus them' mentality that I don't bother watching anymore. The negativity and exaggerations, too. Then again, news has always likes to pull these sensationalism cards, but it I've seen it get more-so. I've stopped watching the comedy news I used to love. They used to post more varied, interesting content. Now it's mostly 'Trump finally did it' stories. Don't even get me started on the 'Trump finally did it' stories. I left one of the political Facebook groups I was following because almost every article would be some variation of 'Trump finally did it' and lack of fact-checking.
  9. That's interesting =D I remember a bunch of people messing around and duplicating items, but I was neverable to figure out how back then lol Shame about Pokemon Go. Yes, the challenge sounds fun.
  10. I've been cheating Pokemon games since I was about 9 years old. I love cheating and hacking console games to see what they'll do. I had a blast giving weird movesets to my Pokemon. I had a Magikarp named Rage that knew Judgement. Love seeing the animations in Pokemon Stadium, too. I've given Fly to Diglett, Snorlax, and a bunch of others for the giggles. I also liked collecting my 'perfect' Pokemon for character teams so I could do roleplay battles with friends. Just creating all those teams was so much fun in itself, it's like making a trainer card for me, but actually having it in the game and be usable. I also really like Project M and Smash Brothers texture hacks. I don't do it to win, it's just for fun and messing around. I'm not someone who cheats to give myself a bunch of money or advantage and beat out other players or cause inflation/other damage. I never want to cause harm to a game or its economy. I also want to make sure to bring bugs to the attention of the developers if it's an ongoing game to make sure they know about it. Cheating can be a very serious problem.
  11. From California, now in Florida.
  12. Agreed with everything here. This was my thoughts on Comey as well. I would like to see less reference to political parties in the news. You hear things like 'the Republicans want this' or 'Democrats did this' when they could be saying 'this is what some people want or did.' News medias are having a blast with these political parties, it's like sports teams these days. Except it's not sports. It's serious social and economical issues, life or death matters, people, and our country. I don't like Trump, never did. He's narcissistic and has a history of blatantly ripping people off. Doesn't care about who he rips off in his persuits no matter how trivial his own gains are and how high the stakes are for the people he steps on.
  13. Interesting... I haven't used AdSense yet, slow sites sound like a serious problem. It would be nice if you could get ads that don't intefere like that.
  14. Haha I had a similar fascination with Pokemon Blue. I never really got anywhere with it, though. I also really liked hacking just for the fun of it, not because I wanted to 'cheat' and win. I just liked messing with the games. I didn't start actually learning code until I started my SIM game. Am really passionate about making it.
  15. This is great! Thank you! I love my shiny new medal.
  16. I used to keep a thread on VPL with updates once or twice a month showing off new features and whatenot for my game, which is still in closed beta (about 2 years in the making). Not sure if what TGL has in mind will be the same or really similar. If there was a place for me to do these posts, I would make use of it, but either way is all good =)
  17. Whoops! Oh well. You can delete mine if you like =D I look forward to seeing some logos with the world-building branding!
  18. Okay! I'm not great with graphic/logo design, but here's mine. It's supposed to be "TGL" combined into one symbol that resembles a power button. In galaxy or tech variation.
  19. Sounds great! I have a submission. Should I post here or privately message you?
  20. Thank you for this! I'm looking forward to seeing more guides, especially SIM/petsite specific coding ones. Might be able to contribute art ones at some point!
  21. I do 13 and up because of COPPA and because the content is PG-13. I look into PG-13 rating procedures to get an idea of what's accepted and what's not. I also look into what the demograph of people on my site allow for their own kids because a lot of the players have kids of their own. I watched this video the other day on Youtube, 7 Weird Ways Games Tried To Stop People Playing Them, and they had an interesting game on the list that required people to pass an 'adult test' that contained cultural references and other things that children would be less likely to know the answers to. Of course, the test is horribly outdated now, but I thought that seemed like an interesting way to keep kids out of a game that's not meant for them.
  22. Thank you so much for posting these, tiff! I definitely would love to use some of them on leporidae.org and will add you to the credits.
  23. Thanks for your input! I just finished a recode of our shops using Nate's timestamp suggestion. Much more resource friendly than a cron. And that is good to know, HappyDemon!
  24. @Digital I agree! As long as the intent was innocent and they make adjustments to fix the problem, it's totally forgivible. I don't hold any ill will towards people for just being ignorant (unless they refuse to change, then ignorance is a choice and not as innocent). As long as they don't keep doing it with the understanding that it causes harm. And thank you @Corsair for your point on the issue of being offended for other groups of people, that's a good point too. I would hate to assume that someone else is offended for something that has nothing to do with myself. It's important to talk to them and hear their opinions before making assumptions. Maybe a good way to judge whether something is offensive, as a site developer, would be to run a poll and ask everyone 'Do you think *insert race being portrayed* pets are offensive?' and 'Are you a *insert race*?.' That way, if you don't have enough people of that race who think the content is offensive, you can go offsite and get more more feedback to make sure that you are not just removing something because a bunch of people are assuming its offensive to someone else.
