  1. I prefer both "all-in-one" and "folder" inventories. You can also do both at the same time, with a "show all" folder and have the remaining categories. Limited inventories are good for strategy and server performance. You should always have amount limits in my opinion, since things can get kind of game-breaking if a user somehow gets 9999 of an item, you know? Space limits with buyable expansions are good money sinks for your game's economy, but I'm not sure about weight limits for a browser game. It kind of makes me think of if neopets had a skyrim-style carry weight system. It seems weird to me, but I guess it can be done if you're creative enough with it.
  2. They're pet contests for Foodbabs (the "view full news link" leads to the acutal post). It will have contests like Best in Show, races, etc. where users can enter and win 1-3 prizes that are randomly selected each week.
  3. There hasn't been an update here in a while, but contests should be good to go starting on Monday (the 25th). I'm working now and over the weekend on possible prizes and refining the system and such, like making sure the cron jobs actually run (that was the problem with seasons for a while) This is the schedule that will run weekly: Mon-Thur: Registration Open Fri: Registration Closed (Withdraws still available) Sat: Contests Run Sun: Contest Results View full news
  4. That's good! It used to be where HoF had to manually go in and unblock IPs, so I don't know if he's been constantly doing that and finally got to yours or if it's just fixed for everyone in general. I hope it's the latter.
  5. For a VPS, a mobile-compatible site is usually enough and it cuts down on the extra work needed to make an app. Unless you just want to go that extra mile, an app isn't really needed. I know Howrse has an app, but I'm not sure which others do. IMO it was basically the same as a mobile site, except it took up storage space to install.
  6. I have a backup of the site from when it moved to x10, so I was able to replace most stuff, but I do need a more recent backup. Luckily, a lot of newer features had their own page, or similar pages on both sites were given different file names, so those were not overwritten. I actually fixed most things now, the only thing left is a style or two missing from tables/popups/progress bars, etc. Functionally, I would say things are back to normal now.
  7. If feel like it depends. On one side, nobody should ever expect a finished and polished game because, well, it's alpha. It's sort of like buying an early access game on steam and wondering why it's unfinished, so I generally discredit those kinds of things from people like that. It's completely different if a game opens in the alpha/beta state and it's not functional/buggy beyond belief. At that point it should be developed more before opening the doors. For me, I'm fine with opening my games in the alpha stage as long as they're functional without too many errors popping up all over the place. If users can have a somewhat enjoyable experience without too many problems (albeit not being feature-heavy in that state), then I consider it functional. However, the only reason I open my games for alpha is because I lack both a team and organised testers, nor do i have the money to get them. If you have the money to spend and you're uncomfortable releasing to the public in a game's current state, then using a testing team or patreons or somethings would be better than opening to the public, because that does open the doors to people who will join the game and assume it's finished for some reason.
  8. I don't think forum style RPs have phased out, in fact you'll probably still find quite a few active ones if you search specifically. I think actions accompanied by short little post would be a good idea. Also, how long would these little short stories have to be? Is a certain word count required to progress? (Like a paragraph) Mostly because, from a personal standpoint, I'm not so good at writing. I used to RP well when I was younger, but I fell out of practice and could never regain the skill lol. I'm not sure if there are very many in my shoes, but if there are than having an action to accompany a shorter post instead would be great. It could be a thing where you do an action and it sends a message along with it, which contains what the user typed (if they typed at all), that's what I plan to do with player-to-player interactions on Wild Souls.
  9. I have a github and bitbucket account, but I'm not sure how to use them. I'm leaning towards gitlab, since it's free and doesn't have a 1gb limit. I guess I'll try be best to not have multiple tabs open too, what happened was that I have the sites on different hosts, but I had both file managers open
  10. So earlier today when I was attempting to get Wild Souls online, I accidentally uploaded the files in the wrong place: that place being foodbabs. Any files with the same names were automatically overwritten (including our pretty new theme that I spent an entire day fixing! whyyyy mee???), so the site might be down for a few days while I restore stuff. The database was unaffected, so your pets and the like are still safe, but unfortunately this means I have to rewrite probably a majority of pages on the site. A lot of features that were there are more often than not missing now... View full news
  11. Oh! Okay. IMO, I don't believe the video should take up too much of the screen unless you're trying to do a theater-type thing. Most people are fine with videos the size of a default youtube video embed. Another okay size would be about the width of this quick-reply box.
  12. I might be understanding wrong, but you could try zooming out of the page while recording. Google chrome allows you to zoom out, and I'm sure Firefox does it to. That's what I do when I need to take full-page screenshots.
  13. First off, I worked on the visit page! With the background from my DA, It looks more pretty now, and it shows information about the wolf you're visiting. (Look at my beautiful son) The "bully" button automatically changes based on the age of the wolf, since you don't exactly "challenge" a 3 month old pup. I began working on the converse page, but there isn't much to see at the moment. In other news, I made an official discord! That way I'm not flooding the Foodbabs discord with Wild Souls stuff. You can join the hype here: https://discord.gg/8CV9hgV View full news
  14. I spent the past few hours working on Wild Souls, and I started (and mostly finished) character customization! (Some of the colors came out a bit dull in the gif, but this was the best I could get it. You should have seen the first three I made...) It doesn't lead to another page yet, it just loops in on itself. Once finished there will be a different button for "preview" and "submit". There will be more options too, like a name, gender, attributes, two more marking slots, etc. The claws and such will get colored eventually guys, don't worry! Unfortunately, the value always goes back to the first in the array, rather than what you had selected. I tried for 30 minutes to fix that with javascript, but I couldn't get it. In other news, Wild Souls will be closed alpha once it gets to a point where it's playable. The reason is because, unlike Foodbabs, Wild Souls requires a somewhat controlled environment where I can monitor things and make sure the AI are behaving properly; which is hard to do with a ton of people and tons of database entries. Eventually, a limited amount of users will be able to request alpha codes that they can use to register. Once registered, they can generate 2 alpha codes to give to friends. For every inactive user (IE: Users who don't log in for several weeks), one more space is available for someone to request a code. View full news
  15. In hopes of gaining more audience, Foodbabs now has an official tumblr! Like it says in the image, the tumblr will be for posting updates and answering questions. View full news
  16. Fall is back, which means you can once again adopt the Pumpkat and Black Forest Dog from the Halloween Shop! Two new pets are coming to be fall exclusives as well! They were kind of the elephants in the room, since they were on the site but not adoptables. That's right, coming this month is the Candy Corn Snake and the Blueberry Bat! Soon you will be able to have a Slyther or Snuffles of your own! Next up are contests and training! While not publicly available yet, both will launch pretty soon. Both actions will require energy, so you can't train or enter contests if that pet is tired. Also coming soon for the Halloween season! Adorable..hybrids? (What is that???) View full news
  17. I joined VPL shortly before it went down. I was Dinocanid over there too.
  18. Our brand new theme, downloaded from free-css and adapted for the Mysidia script. The background is subject to change, since I have yet to draw an official background, but I like the colors so those will stay. I created a shiny new logo too, to go with our new theme. This theme is 90% finished, so it's opt-in right now. Once completed it will replace both the classic and new bootstrap themes. This is because it has unfortunately become a hassle to keep the content consistent between both, and it is much easier in the long run to have one theme. There will be color scheme options in the future, but not a completely different theme. This new theme is both more responsive and more eye-catching than the last two, so mobile users rejoice! Want this theme for your site? I plan to upload it to both the mysidia support forums and dinoscripts pretty soon. View full news
  19. I don't expect a quick win or easy money, I know that I need a good following for this to even work. This is just a plan for the far future, when/if I actually get there. I want to know what kind of things I could give down the road if I get to that point.
  20. For Wild Souls, users are usually placed in a random npc-driven pack upon signing up unless they use a referral code to join their friends or the like. Otherwise, different users can end up in the same pack and will have to work together to some extent. Whether or not two packs are allies or enemies can vary, but what about sharing pack information? There will be a forum where users can discuss things, but I want some way to discourage users from sharing info about moves their pack has made during their "turns". It wouldn't be against the rules, but openly sharing this with others could put them at a disadvantage.; sort of like showing another person your cards during a card game. I feel like this could pose a problem once the userbase gets big enough, like trolls who just like to sabotage or newbies who just don't know any better.
  21. The pre-alpha stage is usually where features for the site are still being tested and decided on. You can read more about pre-alpha, alpha, beta, etc. here: Link For a pre-alpha game, I would say a must have would be a way to adopt pets, some sort of item shop, and a way for users to communicate. After that, you can look and see what direction you want the site to go in and what features you want to add. The more features you add and bugs you fix, the more it becomes done enough for the alpha stage, beta stage, and final stage. Think of pre-alpha as a "presentation" or teaser for your game. In my opinion, I would say not to stress too much over the pre-alpha launch, since pre-alpha games are usually always pretty bare-bones; unless you're trying to produce a full game before launch. To add a bit of perspective, Foodbabs has been in the alpha stage for about 2 years (first launching in October 2015), and I plan to head into the beta stage by the end of this year or early next year when I have enough features and the site looks more polished. I've usually spent my time adding a feature or two a month and maybe a few extra pets while spending the rest of the time keeping an eye out for bugs, glitches, and loopholes to make sure it runs well.
  22. I'll go ahead and send a pm for you. I replied to your question too, but it took me a minute to see since I didn't know they had to be approved first lol.
  23. Actually...It's back up now! HOF solved the server issue yesterday or the day before. It had an issue of a low user threshold and it auto-banned IPs that went over the max amount of users or something. If you still can't access it, you IP is probably still blocked. I can pm HOF about it for you if you want or you can use an online proxy and pm him yourself.
  24. I just added a snazzy new theme to the site, since I like testing when it looks pretty (Screenshot was zoomed out to show everything) It's pretty similar to the old one, but it's 100% better for mobile. View full news
