  1. IMPORTANT EDIT:

PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITY WARNING! Paul owes several people work and has disappeared.

Hey TGL! Just had to share how great things have been going with @PaulSonny over on Kasaria! :bashful:

He has worked as my programmer for about 4 or 5 months. First I was having him make HTML5 games, then he updated our layout to Bootstrap. The prices were very fair and he made excellent improvements!

Now he is Kasaria's main programmer, and I've been very satisfied with his friendliness and speed of working! I'll have a huge list of things to do - and he is very thorough with knocking it out or getting back to me quickly asking for clarification. Kasaria has had a few bugs spring up from the layout change and continuation or addition of features, but was very quick to familiarize himself and work well with the existing code.

I think what's also important is that he genuinely cares about the projects he works on! Kasaria recently had its beta launch, and I never expected or suggested to him to check on the forums to keep up with bugs or anything being reported. I'm generally pretty quick to get that information to him. However, while I was away for work or classes - he checked the forum and interacted with players, helping them with bugs, introducing quick quality of life updates, and updating them when things were corrected. Everything he's done has been wonderful, and he always works with further improving or integrating things in the future!

  2. For my small school projects when I have to make mock sites and portfolios, I just find it really convenient and cheap to use one of my friend's hosting sites (Spottywolf from VPL)

    http://spotontechsupportllc.com/hosting/cart.php

    It's super freaking cheap x'D
Anytime I've had to contact them with questions (usually about cancelling said side sites before the billing period, or if I had a question about paypal's subscription service) they have been speedy to reply and extremely helpful. I've been using them for Kasaria's development since 2015.

  3. I think part of VPL's problem was that the site news wasn't presented in an interesting format anymore. It felt kinda spammy and not very engaging for conversation. The RSS didn't help to give interesting titles (it would just be like Petsite News instead of Petsite Adds New Questline!), and then there would be unimportant/unrelavant to an outside forum updates like game trophies, staff notes, etc. Eventually, these would all have to be merged into an unfriendly "super topic."

But whenever there were legitimate posts that were given a little care to make sure the formatting translated over well and there was enough context to what site it was from (link backs, banners, etc), it seemed to get a bit more engagement from the community and far more views.

Personally, I think it might be best to just start out with one development forum, and as TGL grows and there's a need for subsections, then add those.

I know updates can be few with games in development, but maybe if there's something to help set it apart from others? If there was a blog-like format/profile to follow games in development or a different thread tag (just two of the many possibilities)? Mostly I think new games just want to do the initial advertisement, and maaaybe a few updates in between. I'm not sure if adding this forum might even help pull in other Indie games too. If it's given the focus and push to become an important feature here, then I'm sure it would be used by forum owners and social media staff.

Also, I think VPL or VPU (way back when) used to reward a badge or something to users who were pretty consistent with posting over news , so maybe an adoptable or something could be incorporated for incentive if there is a need for help getting content posted.

Just a few more ideas :P

  4. @jakdacrowe - I haven't gotten bored of taking down tons of machines yet! I like to travel by foot or mount instead of use the fast pack for the most part for that exact reason :D Except, I really wish the animals would behave and give me bones and pelts so I can upgrade my carrying capacities! Still, it's fun to figure out where large groups are and sneak through shrub so I don't alert machines that would scare the animals away.

What's your favorite type of machine to take down? Have you gotten to any bigger ones by Meridian?

  5. @Kami - Yeah, google gnome was one of my favorite non-petsite ones, and I don't play any live computer games to see what prank they might have played. But on the petsite side, I didn't see much going on D:

  6. I'm actually a little disappointed this year with the games I frequent! Usually everyone goes all out but it doesn't seem as special this time?

Flight Rising's was pretty funny, I like how the joke is carried through the rest of the site into the coliseum and everything :P
