  1. @Digital I'm sure it can never hurt to brush up every now and then I think sometimes we get comfortable, conversational, or forget that others may not know as much about something as we do ourselves, and that can lead to things breaking some of the 7 C's rules.
  2. I just finished my finals today!!! PARTY I have a lot of plans for myself this summer, since I'll be a senior next year and will seriously need to up my game so that I'd be ready for an internship (or a job would be nice)! I hope to do speedpaints and studies daily, start doing more plein air, and I have plans on collaborating with @chocoshrooms on a full book/comic (undecided).
  3. //SMASHES ADOPT BUTTON Really excited to hatch mine! Thank you @Aminirus!
  4. A good read! And thank you for including good/bad examples! I know I can struggle with being concise. But I'll reread it out loud a couple of times and if I can, ask a friend. From there I can usually trim it down some.
  5. Oh gosh, that expression on the lil bird pet is adorable! Looks like they just got caught for knocking a vase over or making a nest out of toilet paper. How could you stay mad at them though? Best of luck selling!
  6. @Digital- I have a store balance (yay, contest!!!) but before I spend it, I just want to know a little more about the custom adopts! Is it possible to get a PSD to recolor, or is it expected to just be an image we draw of the pet on our own + modifications?
  7. There are thousands of tutorials across the internet, all with varying opinions on what you should and shouldn't do along with many stylistic choices. A lot of it is neat, but doesn't really stick for me. I find tutorial sources that are more like mentors or have frequent tutorials/courses to be the most helpful. I treat myself to TamberElla's $5 Patreon reward which gives 2 tutorials, PSDs, and now a guaranteed brush kit each month. If I remember right, she went to RISD and left because she was capable of teaching herself. I feel a lot of her tutorials echo and support what I'm learning at SCAD (which has been the most helpful to me, by far) I also bought lifetime access to Digital Painting Academy when it first launched and was on super sale! It has foundation courses and worksheets, monthly tutorials, and frequent workshops. I haven't actually had much time to delve into it like I want, but I think it'd be good for foundations and especially realistic rendering of portraits. Though I'd recommend trying it out for a month first! Sometimes the best teacher is yourself though! You can learn so much by doing master copies and studies! I recently started speedpainting and did these in 10 mins each. I learned a LOT about atmosphere, vibrancy, and especially how color can affect all areas of paintings. (Something photographs have a hard time capturing.)
  8. @Nova - Oh wow! You know, now that you mention it I can see it!
  9. I've used Trello for Kasaria for at least 3 years. I love having personal boards for myself, but it's also one of my favorite team oriented workspaces!
  10. That's awesome @Nate ! What's the next goal you have in mind for yourself? Hopefully once my last final passes by, I can catch up with you
  11. Thanks @Digital ! It's based off of my roommate's cat, who used to be from a wild cat colony! He's so chubby and waddles everywhere, but is the most docile and cuddly cat I've ever met. He surprised us once when he caught a bird that flew into the house, but the big twist is that he doesn't have any teeth so the bird lived P:
  12. I would highly recommend a tablet to anybody who wants to draw digitally. Without it, it's like drawing without a tool. (And instead you're trying to hold onto a broken piece of graphite haha.) I used to draw with a mouse for 2 years and BOY my improvement spiked as soon as I switched to a tablet. That being said, it is certainly possible to produce some great things with a mouse. But it's going to be a fight since you'd be missing a lot of pen pressure sensitivity and ease of workflow that a tablet provides. And there'd still be limitations that would require awkward and time extensive workarounds to get to what a tablet could do in seconds. Good drawing tablets can be as low as $60, and actual tablets (androids, apple, etc) are getting a lot better. One of my roommates had a nice sensitive stylus with extra nibs for like $10 from Amazon. Art doesn't have to be expensive, but if you ever try to buy other mediums (pastel, good colored pencils, acrylic, etc) that cost could be about the same anyway. @Digital I know you were tinkering with pixel art before! I actually prefer my mouse for pixel work, it feels much more careful and precise, at least to me.
  13. @HareYES I get myself so excited about lore/plot ideas as I plan and implement them, but I could only imagine what the player would feel like to discover and try to figure things out on their own <3 Though I must say it's really fun and rewarding as an owner to see players work through stuff!
  14. I'm working on a couple of things right now! Finishing up some finals. In one class, I have to create illustrations that tell a part of a story. Of course I love making myself suffer and decided to do animations?? I have very little experience oops. *Scene #2 *Scene #3 Those were the biggest scenes, so now I'm working on 1 and 4! If there's interest, I'll post them too when I finish I'm also working on a pop out card that's Beauty and the Beast inspired (still working on some of the clothes design for the cat, and the interior design!) Also something I have no experience with, but I decided to make this quarter all about branching out to see if something resonates.
  15. Haha, the real question is if I could remove my bias to answer the question Right now, it's still in pretty active beta development so I could see myself poking around daily but not too active. I can understand that. When the game is "complete" I'm sure I would check in daily and spend at least an hour a day! I made Kasaria based off of most of my interests and things I desired to see more of or added to pet sites, so of course it'd make sense that it would be one of my favorite games. If it can keep me passionate enough to pour time and money into making it, I'm sure I'd want to play it too
  16. Alright! Loving all the new updates, they look great!
  17. I used to have some pretty awful names on Neopets like ToriPet1435223. No clue about the numbers at the end but honestly it was probably as long as possible and chosen by the suggestion box. Little me also wanted a blue Lupe named Skater so Skater000101332993113 (you get the picture) was born. Later on in middle school I liked what few books my school library had of the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. In there, a place where dragons lived was called a weyr, so... for a while I was known everywhere as dragonweyrgirl. At least that username wasn't taken anywhere else!
  18. Not sure if it really counts, but I used to play around in Ren'Py making visual novels. It was a ton of fun, but they never left my desktop
  19. @Digital Is this still going to be open after June 1st? I finish my finals then and can have more time to mockup some stuff as an entry. Regardless, if wanted I'd be willing to make the winner's design into a vector on Adobe Illustrator for TGL for free, depending on how crazy it gets Here's some of what I can do, as an example http://fav.me/dawie94
  20. @Aminirus - That's pretty amazing that you got to see some of the program behind new animation! I know it's really geared towards getting out something as fast and easy as possible... but I will 100% agree with you on that I miss some of the more traditional animation methods (or even with some of the level of care as animated movies) Some of it will be hand animated in the storyboarding process, but when it continues through the pipeline for a TV show animation... it loses a lot of that spark and energy. It's not always the same eye candy as watching something like Treasure Planet and thinking, "people DREW this." There was something so magical about seeing a Don Bluth collection at my university once. Just looking at the animation cells, backgrounds, character sketches, etc. UGH <3 I didn't want to wash my hands afterwards, it felt so special. However, I think there's still a good crowd that appreciates the time and skill put into hand created things ( looking at you, Laika Studios) and I hope that can be given some more affection as the next animation trend swings in. <3
  21. In terms of animation style, I think it's just different tastes - cartoons have evolved a lot along with the general trends, needs, and technology of animation. Personally I don't watch many of today's cartoons because I don't have the time, but the few episodes of Gumball I saw now and then I actually enjoyed.
  22. Looking forward to this. I've fallen in love with Invision, so I know the update has to look and feel great! Definitely eyeing those clubs, I think it could fit in pretty well here.
  23. Thank you for the game list on the side bar especially! I know I need to get my butt in gear and add Kasaria, but that's a really generous way to help promote us <3
