Specialized User Groups for Marketplace Users

To make things a little easier to find users who specialize in either programmer.png, artist.png, or writer.png, we now specialized user groups for these groups. Below are the requirements for getting these groups.

  • I ask that you post a thread in Looking for Work, and place any links or information about your experience or examples of work. This is akin to a professional profile. If you are not currently looking for work, you may state so also. You do not have to accept work, just have to maintain the post there to get your user group assigned. Having a post in there is just a way to maintain a public record of what you can or want to find or do.
  • Every 3 months we will remove the user group from any individual that does not post at least 20 content items (posts) within the last 3 month period. 20 posts, even at the current forum pace we feel it is reasonable over a 90 day period, and we feel that any member who is considered a specialist (someone who carries these designations) should be engaged on the boards to some degree.

The main goal of the titles is to allow users looking to hire or find specialists in particular areas. We want those specialists to be somewhat active and engaged in the community as it benefits all three parties (the person looking, the specialist, and the forums.)

As with anything on the boards, please offer feedback :)

They look great! Thanks for automatically putting it on my profile.

The only other thing I would recommend is an easier way for people to find them, for example under the Browse menu there is a Staff link. Perhaps a link for each user group would also be beneficial.

This is something I am looking into as we speak

Brilliant!

Let me know if you need help testing.

The staff menu item is now called Core Members, it now displays any staff as Staff Members, and will display any member as Programmers, Artists, and Writers under it.

Okay. I had to re-read this, but now I see that you don't have to actively be looking for work to get a title. I like the way you decided to set this up.

I figured it made the most sense. Not all artists, programmers, or writers are actively seeking work or have time to do side work. I still want them to have a post in the forum as a professional place to show what they know/can do, but want them to be able to say they are not open to accepting new work.

I'm glad you have the expiring feature. I know that was an issue on VPL. Thanks for this ^^

I felt the need to keep these users somewhat recent and relevant. I want the user groups to mean something to both the users who have them as well as to the community as a whole.

I am glad you like the program! Are you going to join?

Great idea! And helps a lot. Maybe with this feature there could be some kind of icon or title prefix on the looking for work thread that say "OPEN" or "CLOSED" so people browsing them don't need to read the threads of people who aren't currently open for work.

I like this a lot since I am sometimes open to commissions, but my slots fill up quickly and most of the time I just have too much work to take on more.
