  1. Hello everyone!

I'm currently having issues with my current host and fast becoming a needle in my side!

I was wondering if anyone could tell me who their currency host is/costs and give them a general review?

I only need something small, it's to host a company website and some demo scripts.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Good topic - for me, I think there can be a link, but only if there is something there to begin with, and what I mean by that, is you could have a child which plays every violent game there is, and doesn't hurt a fly because she doesn't have any underlying tendencies, versus a child that does - etc.

Part of me also thinks it's just an excuse to excuse bad behaviour. There is a total lack of respect in the younger generation these days in my opinion.

The hardest feature for me is always any payment system, especially if I'm offering localised payment (i.e. you pay in USD if you're in the US instead of GBP or whatever). It's hard because you have to deal with sensitive financial figures (so BigDecimal-esque) which cannot be inaccurate at any point (Floats are not accurate, don't use them) to avoid "off by one" errors.

You also have to handle the exchange rate conversion, store all the relevant data, and do it all in a format that allows you to sort your books out at the end of the financial year. It's a lot of work. :(

I've never really done anything behind PayPal and IPN integration. It does sound like it could be a headache though.

I LOVE working with Imagick and the GD library. The first time around though, I did find it extremely frustrating. I started messing with it about 7 years ago (geez.. where has the time gone...), but now it comes second nature to me.

The feature I find super hard is making a super interactive battle system. The formulas for attack and defense and just trying to find a good formula to work with that makes it not too easy, but not impossible to win. It's more of the logic that gives me a huge road block and not so much the code for it though.

I've only very lightly dabbled in a battle system but luckily the algorithms were already done - otherwise I think I would of struggled.

I would also love it. I've gone through building a tutorial game with Phaser, nothing complicated but it seemed really cool. I'm looking forward to more games coming out on some of these engines. :)

I posted Part 1 already which involves building the bare bones that can be used for pretty much any game. I'll be posting the next in the series this week.

  5. Great update - just had a look and it's looking great. Going to be brilliant once that starts filling up!

Just as an observation, I think the game list should only allow text, the Novilar banner is a little in your face and distracting for the rest of the games - unless that's the intention?
