This is another old guide of mine that I've spruced up a bit.

Moderators are an important aspect to any company, that includes pet site games! They're the face of your business, the ones dealing directly with your userbase and customers. They're the ones keeping everything safe and...
Feels strange finally making a little intro thread here, seeing as how I've been a part of the pet gaming community for...wow, maybe eight or nine years now? #oldfart
But for those who may not know--I'm kami, otherwise known as Sam. Neopets nostalgia will probably never leave me, thus my...
(To be fair, this is an old guide I typed a while ago, though I went through it and fixed it up a bit.)
I figured I'd post a 'How to Get Started in VP World' guide-esque. This will mainly contain my thoughts on what I feel are most needed to get started in making your own virtual petsite.
You...
Haha yeah, it can get complicated quick! I've only used CC licenses, CC BY NC and CC0 for things. MIT might've been the one I was thinking of for open source? I don't know the nitty gritty of them though. I'm more familiar with CC. (Just did me a quick Google, and GPL came up and that rang a...
I don't normally spend money on games, be they mobile or otherwise. I'm a stickler for spending my cash, so unless I really want to back the project, it's rare for me to spend even 99 cents x'D
I think that was the first and only mobile purchase I ever made was in Pokemon Go. That was back when...
There was one a while back that was being worked on by Lewis and another member (can't remember their name) on VPL, but unfortunately the progress ended. Kitto was another open source project, but it's rather dated. Mysidia is another, though it's more adoptable oriented, but I'm not sure how...
Lots of open source projects generate revenue. The profits can go to however the people want to dictate it. I've never personally worked on an open source project where I was paid, but loads of them do it successfully, and I'm sure it's just a Google search away to figure out how most people do...
It could definitely be successful, and if managed well (as management would be the key factor here), then you wouldn't have issues like styles clashing, multiple people doing the same job inadvertently, etc.
As for my personal interest in contributing to one, it would greatly depend on what the...
It would probably be a good idea to include links to the sites as well :)
Some more: Lioden, Tattered Weave, FurVilla, Clanheart, Equiverse, Eqcetera, Goatlings, Marapets, Furry Paws, Howrse
Perhaps consider advertising campaigns? I know FR brought in quite a few members to VPL, could be a good place to start, working with them. (Having topics on FR might also help this forum show up in Google searches.) Utilizing social media pages could help too. I know Tumblr was a place to go...
I think what would help most is getting more members. It's unfortunate that VPL is stil closed down, as it would make it much easier to contact the users over there and inform them of this alternative. :/
But #1 would be completely solved with more members, and #2 can happen more over time...
I already know Hiragana and Katakana, learned those yeeaaarrss ago, haha. You kind of need to learn those first to do anything anyway XD It's like learning the ABCs for English. You can't read anything if you don't know the alphabet. Working on kanji with WaniKani. (It's an online kanji...
This is such a cool thing :D I love seeing people take advantage of their positions for philanthropy. That's something I'd love to be able to do one day.
It's a very interesting one! Crazy how different it is from English, but I like it a lot better than other Western languages, mostly due to the lack of gendered forms. (I tried learning German in the past, and off/on Russian, and it's just so random most of the time with what words are...
