Neopets began way back in 1997 in a dingy little computer room. The site was launched on 15th November 1999. Neopets has been available in many languages since 2004 -- including Spanish, French, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, German and Dutch.

If you are looking for a very active game, Neopets is a good place to begin.

I think I joined neopets in 2000??? december iirc. 
I remember when zafaras looked like this:

 

there's a lot of old things you can actually still access on the site that's dead ends from pages that were once linked. its pretty spooky at times. Like peeking into an abandoned tunnel and such.

As much as I said I wasn't going to, I returned to Neopets. As of right now, I have two Lupes. (A blue one I made, and a yellow I adopted.) I'm apparently better at games than I used to be, having amassed 50k Neopoints in a matter of days.
