  1. This seems unnecessarily hostile and immature. It's nice seeing the effort towards rebuilding VPL and I hope it continues but it definitely gives me pause to participate when I see something like this. If this is really a message to the owner, as you put it, then it belongs in a private message. Though it mostly seems like something that is just better left unsaid and just post about the new plans and activities that VPL has going for it now instead.

  3. Hey Eliyo Admin here. @Rose Thanks for the feedback! I wanted to address a couple points you brought up. Nesting Correction A correction on the nest limitations. Nests have two parameters, nest limit, the max amount the space can hold (essentially the max capacity for the land) and then the actual current space capacity (you own the land but it still needs prepped to hold elons). To increase your total limit it does cost elytes but the first limit is 200 and that's free. It does cost coins to 'prep the land' and so increase your current capacity. The nest paradigm has been pretty confusing for people, so I am working on figuring out ways to make it more clear and intuitive while keeping the same functionality. Breeding and Herb Usage While herbs are required for breeding and elons do sometimes refuse to breed (they have personality so sometimes do their own thing) the herbs aren't used up when they refuse to breed. Tutorial Not Obvious What would make the tutorial more obvious to you? Currently if you haven't completed it a pop up appears on login and a red 'tutorial' link appears on the side bar until it's complete as well. Or do you just mean the tutorial is inadequate? Guaranteed Income and Pricing Just as a note we do also have a couple mini games that offer a guaranteed income as well. And battling is actually a pretty significant income for many, though you do have to build up in order to get to the higher level arenas to really take advantage of this. We have some quests on a few NPCs as well, though this area is still pretty under developed at the moment so there are only a couple. FYI you can get food for less than 25 coins and toys less than 50 (though toys do range a bit higher than food being more collectable and also reusable). You do start pretty destitute on purpose as you are impoverished when starting the game from the slums of the city, but I can see why this might be discouraging to some and as well we need to get the story added in there a bit more so that is known. Anyway thanks for the feedback! We certainly have a long way to go even before I would consider us out of beta and feedback helps us to see what's working and what area needs improvement.
  4. I'm on the hunt for an artist who can do area location maps for a new project I am working on. The style is a more simple cell shaded one with gradients used at times to match our current item and pet assets. But we don't have any location areas done yet that need to be matched so this will be defining the exact style going forward. The first piece will be a fair grounds type area that's on a dock with a couple specific points of interest defined. But we have other areas and the full map that will need to be done as well. Let me know if you are interested with some examples. You can contact me here or at [email protected]
  5. I'm not really an artist, but was thinking a fun experiment might be to take the item and draw it multiple times in different styles, maybe like a dozen or so. Would probably help to learn a bit more about style matching and drawing in different styles. Just a thought, but if you do would be cool to see your results. For me purchasing items for my games or projects it really depends on what I need, but having a style that matches one of my projects is pretty important too. So even if the items are things I might be interested in, it also has to fit into the project I would want it for. Which can be kind of hard to do when games can have such different styles in general. So it's really hit or miss. But if you can style match more it would open you up for more commissions in general.
  6. Sorry this job has already been filled. Thank you for you interest!
  7. I'm looking for an item artist that can create about a dozen wooden statues that look like our animal creatures for Eliyo. Something like this is the idea. And I would be interested in getting a stone re-textured version of them all as well. Some actual items from Eliyo that these items should align with. I also need a couple wooden toys. * Recreation of the old fashion dog wood but using a floppy eared Zorvic. * Pile of wooden blocks, Eliyo themed instead of letters * Spinning top painted like the old fashion tops * Block pieces shapes a painted with plain colors If interested you can contact me on here or by email ([email protected]). Thanks!
  8. A handful of updates went live yesterday for Eliyo. Badges You can now find badges around the site. Badges can be favorited so that they show up on your forum posts and your user profile. Currently there are 8 to find, with many more planned! I won't tell you how you acquire them, so play around and discover them all. A big thank you to Aaron for this update. This marks his first contribution as a programmer to the site and the first code update not done by me. Hope to have more in the future. Timezone Selection You can now set whatever timezone you want from your account settings page. Setting your timezone will affect time events which right now would be if you set Dynamic as the option for layout, though more things could come into play in the future. Icons Updated I acquired a couple assets and updated Eliyo coin, elyte, and breed heart indicator to be more attractive. The previous ones were made by me and really meant to be temporary. So they've been updated. Hope you enjoy the new ones. A handful of forum icons have also been updated. And a new mail and alert icon have been added on instead of the previous flat one that was used. Daily Bonus Modal Previously there was a notification to alert you of your daily bonus acquired. This has been updated to feel more rewarding with a modal on login that shows what you earned today, yesterday, along with what you will earn tomorrow and the next time you'll earn an elyte. Default Elon Background You now have a couple selection options for your elon backgrounds. The original older one, a plain light one, a plain dark one, and a seasonal one. This can be set for your entire account along with each elon individually. Being it's winter, this snow one is the current background applied if you select seasonal. Previous Updates this month include public breeding going live, new types of yokio (breeding herbs), and a new theme along with various bug fixes and smaller updates. Visit Eliyo
  9. Glad you have been able to run ads again. I don't know how long the review period was, guessing not very long if it was separate since it was showing the 30 days pretty much right away. I haven't really advertised much myself recently, but I do have analytics setup. That is frustrating that you pay for AdWords and then they flag your AdSense account. It's pretty ridiculous honestly. But glad things seem to running again for you now at least. Hopefully you won't run into any further problems.
  10. Mine was suspended for a 30 days and will be active again mid February. I can't remember if it was in a 'review' state first or not but it's a specific timeline for me now anyway. The official reason listed is 'Invalid clicks and impressions' and then gives some of that generic language I mentioned above when you click for more information. For me, nothing has changed on my site recently, so what can I fix? I just feel like it's a matter of time before they do a permanent ban anyway since if there is something on my end that's wrong, I don't have any real way to fix it. And if not, I still have no recourse with them. So just feels like it's a matter of time. And I would just rather not give them a change to get free resources from my site either. Since like I mentioned as far as I know any balance you have with them at the time of the ban is forfeited. But I can understand not wanting to just cut them off if you can help it, especially with it being such a large part of your budget. Honestly it feels like in your case they are punishing you for getting a good return on your advertisement, which is even more frustrating when you are using Adwords. Hopefully since yours is just in review they will end up not counting it as invalid and you can continue as normal.
  11. Just recently had my account flagged for invalid traffic as well within the past couple weeks. And no, they don't give any actual information as to why other than the generic, 'ads must result from genuine user interest. Publishers may not ask others to refresh or click their ads etc..'. And I've never done that, and my adblocker is applied to my site to keep myself from accidental clicks so that wasn't the case. I don't think there is a real solution as I don't get the impression they care. I have heard of this happening a lot to other audiences such as bloggers. And per their terms, if you have a balance when they terminate your account they don't have to give it to you either. I've been thinking about just getting rid of them altogether, but doesn't seem like there are a lot of alternatives either.
  12. This is old news, the $400 pricing didn't stick. Their current plans seem to be from $5-13 a month which isn't anywhere near $400. Plus they do allow some access for free again with blurring and watermarks if you go over that limit (but not broken). Not saying it's great, there are a lot of cheap and free alternatives out there anyway, but still very different than the 400 with broken images that was happening before.
  13. @Qwebs We had a server error earlier due to running out of space, but it's up and ready to go again now if you want to sign up. Note; Unfortunately the Kickstarter did not hit the goal, so while development is continuing it's at a slower pace and much of the mentioned KS features are still under development.
  14. It would be better to do an actual redirect to a must be logged in page of some sort than to just echo stuff out. Will be more flexible log term. You can do redirects in php with header() (make sure you use die() or exit() after the header call), however, you need to do the redirect before you output anything else, or it won't work. I recommend having it in a config file of some sort that you can easily require on every page that can check if the current page should require authentication, and if so, if not authenticated redirect. Make the 'should require authentication' a function as well as the 'is authenticated' a function and that will simply the logic for you. Then you can do something like this (just to give you the idea) if (thisPageRequiresAuthentication && !isAuthenticated) { header("Location: http://domain.com/mustlogin.php"); die(); } Header From PHP manual, https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.header.php And stackoverflow example using header, the first question seems extensive, https://stackoverflow.com/questions/768431/how-do-i-make-a-redirect-in-php To develop the thisPageRequiresAuthentication function there are different options, just depends what you want and what you already are using. In a lot of cases, such as if you were using a framework or a routing engine, then you'd likely handle it a little differently, but a simple solution assuming you are not doing that but are still just learning would be to just have a list of page names that don't need to be authenticated (or a list that does whitelist vs blacklist) and compare the current page being requested to that list to determine if it's need authenticated.
  15. Well you do have something weird going on, as addBreed doesn't equal add in the first place so if you are hitting add something has to be tying the two together. Which I don't know what exactly that is or why, but perhaps renaming it 'reset' that connection or something assuming it is something generated.
  16. Have you tried hard-coding what you send through addBreed or just within the add functionality? If the hard code works, then something is wrong with the input (not likely since you checked that but sometimes), and if not then something is probably wrong with whatever is making addBreed call add instead. One thing you could try, especially if there may be something else interfering, like the framework naming magic, is to just change the name of the method you are calling, or create a new method with a different name (same parameters) and call that instead. And of course you should get the values you input in, and would confirm it is something going wrong with the original function. Edit: Yeah that is weird it was working before and not now. Something must have changed and you didn't realize, or it didn't actually work. If you use version control tracking you can check the logs. And sometimes something that seems unrelated will have changed and mess things up.
  17. Honestly it's a bit hard to follow as I am not very familiar with PGF. Does addBreed really call the add method directly? One thing to do for trouble shooting is jump back a step. So you see add isn't given the expected results, jump back to the first place the input in grabbed. So wherever the form submits, and check there. If the input is as expected continue down the line until you find the area where it's not what you expect and then you can more easily figure out what is going wrong. A side note, your labels are marked for ids that don't exist. minheight should be min_height or the id should be minheight anyway. Wouldn't effect what your doing, but important for it to actually be tied to the correct form element.

  20. @Boltgreywing Getting play testers the next step once you think you have something solid. And of course have something to test. Honestly it is all just so subjective, as there are many styles of play and games as well as different people. So that is why I recommended playing it to see if it feels fun. Getting play testers is great too though. Then ask good questions to them. Is the game fun? What do you enjoy about the game? What frustrates you about the game? Etc... Then you will have to analyze yourself to decide where to go. That is the part that makes you the game designer, and not just the programmer. It's not easy. But if you are struggling with that step, I'd recommend playing games and analyze why you like them, What do you like about them, don't like about them etc.. I do that all the time still. It's part of what being a game designer is about.
  21. This question isn't really easily answerable. I would say the main thing is for points you want to be able to achieve enough to buy things in game. And have it be balanced between fun and not too easy or hard. My advice would be to play the game with your proposed data, and see how it plays. Does it feel fun? Does it feel hard? Frustrating etc...? And then go from there changing things as needed. Once you are further along, then you can get other people to play test as well.

    Hiya!

Hey @Herbal Welcome to the Gaming List. I am a game owner as well (Eliyo and Animal Acres). I have been working on a lot of revamps for Animal Acres, so I understand how that is, and Eliyo hasn't made it out of beta yet. I am a professional web developer by trade. Currently I am focused on my games, along with doing some freelancing on the side, though am going to be running a kickstarter at the end of the month so am really busy with non freelance work right now anyway. But before that I was working for the same company for almost 2 years, and another one before that. So lots of web industry experience. Sounds like you have a variety of interests then. It does help keep the games going when you can wear multiple hats for sure. I do as well and if I had more time would work on my art skills more. Currently I can do recolors and minor edits. But I used to really like drawing backgrounds and things, and wish I had more time to develop that skill set. I think your intro was fine. But I can completely understand wanting a signature.
  23. @Sortie The bird is really nice. That'll be really neat to see it in different styles. Could definitely see it being a good portfolio piece, and just overall practice.

@Hare That'll help for sure. Yeah labels are a personal pet peeve of mine since I use them a lot when they are setup. And such a simple thing to help for screen readers too. Overall though it is a pretty neat game so far. Don't really have time to play much for long, but I will be checking back again for sure. Thanks!
